50 Hz vs 60 Hz Diesel Generator Selection

Frequency affects rated speed, voltage configuration and compatibility with the destination electrical system.

50 Hz vs 60 Hz Diesel Generator Selection
Article

A 50 Hz generator commonly operates at 1,500 rpm and a 60 Hz generator at 1,800 rpm for a four-pole alternator. The selected engine, alternator and controls must be rated for the required frequency.

Voltage and phase requirements vary by country and project. Do not select frequency from the plug type or equipment label alone; confirm the facility electrical standard and connected loads.

Provide frequency, voltage, phase, neutral and earthing requirements in the RFQ so the generating set and output arrangement can be checked before quotation.
